In December and January, in the transition from 2023 to 2024, we were building the wooden yurt platform for the new residents Julia and daughter Kali.
Our good friend Grim designed and built the platform, with Hari (and sometimes Kali) helping with the building work.
The space chosen was on the lower terraces near the river, with the platform spanning across two terraces to create a storage space underneath.
We used freshly cut pine that Grim bought directly from a small Portuguese family-sawmill. The wood was treated with linseed oil.

We had a very warm and sunny January to build in. With some frosty mornings.
Once the platform was finished, a team of three who Julia bought the yurt from came to set it up over two days. The sellers import the yurts from Mongolia.
Julia and Kali now have a cosy home at the Ecovillage!
